Today I fear our nation has taken a turn for the worse from which we may never recover. A colossal Health Care Reform bill was passed that will dramatically change the role of government in citizens’ lives. Either one of two things will happen next:
1. Progressives have just overplayed their hand and the backlash will be severe. This bill was clearly passed against the will of the people by the most arrogant, out of touch Congress and Administration and perhaps they have awoken the sleeping giant of the American voter.
Or…
2. Our country has just passed the point of no return into Socialism and bankruptcy is inevitable. As a nation, we no longer have the desire to learn how to fish; instead we are content taking the fish from the Government who will take it from someone else who they feel is not entitled to it. There is now a collective sense of entitlement that is derived from the Progressive philosophy that we must strive for equal results rather than equal opportunity.
Sadly I feel that we have become so comfortable, fat, and complacent as a nation at that we are going to continue to bend over, grab our ankles, and continue to be raped by the elitists who will tell us to enjoy it since they are doing it for our own good. Our politicians have become so emboldened by our apathy that they no longer fear the will of the people.
Nancy Pelosi declared tonight that Health Care is a right and not a privilege. Think about where that sort of thinking leads. Sure health care is very important, but I can think of many things even more important than that such as food, water, clothing, shelter, and electricity yet none of those are free. It seems absurd, but wait a while. Those will become basic rights as well. Next will be money, jobs, college, cars, and computers because clearly it isn’t fair that some have and some have not.
The American Dream is on life support. The Progressive movement has been slowly infecting and spreading across our nation since Teddy Roosevelt. The radical hippies of the 60′s have become the leaders of this decade. The education system was long ago completely hijacked and our children are taught to worship the Earth over people. They have been taught that that right and wrong is no longer black and white but instead are relative and shifting shades of gray. They have been taught that the Constitution, the greatest political document ever written, is outdated and irrelevant. They have been taught Constitution is also not black and white, it is a living and breathing document that can be changed and/or ignored based on the ends justifying the means. They have been taught that America, once admired as the shining beacon of light, is now the major cause of all the world’s problems. They have been taught that everyone is a winner. They have been taught what to think, what to say, and what to eat. A proud nation of shepherds has become a nation of sheep.
I fear that this is the moment that history will recount as the moment that the United States of America abandoned its founding principles and joined the scrap heap of the failed nations of history due to overwhelming debt and misguided social experimentation. There is no one on Earth who can bail us out of budget deficits that exceed $1 Trillion per year. I can only hope that the States will start to reject the Federal abuse of power and return the power to the states and the people. If any state (perhaps Texas?) decides to secede from the nation and return to our core principles, I will move there in a heartbeat.
