A Time For Choosing

Often called, “The Speech”, the 1964 address Ronald Reagan gave to the Republican National Convention sounds like he is talking about the challenges we face today.  Listen to it and almost every word will ring true. It’s long, but you won’t be able to stop listening once you start.

You think Obama is a great orator and oozes charisma?

Mr. Obama, I knew Ronald Reagan.  Ronald Reagan was a President of mine, and you, sir, are no Ronald Reagan.

  1. Considering that Reagan gave us the worst deficits in the history of this nation (until George Bush)  and expanded the size of government to unprecedented levels, I am pretty sure that we don’t need to be using him as a shining example of restraint.  His administration also began dismantling the regulatory agencies that could have protected us from this economic meltdown.  He was a mouthpiece who read his lines VERY well.  Reagan didn’t end the Cold War, Gorby did.  He was good at napping, though.  And please don’t respond “There you go, again”.  Now THAT was a snappy comeback.

  2. Ribbie, You offer no compelling argument to support your claim.   Why do you even bother commenting on blogs like mine?

You can revise history if you like, but anyone with half a brain and who actually lived through that period will not fall for it.  Reagan could not spend a single dime as is defined by the Constitution, only Congress can do that and the Democrat controlled Congress refused to cut spending.

Do you really believe that nonsense you spew or do you just delight in being an uniformed kool-aid drinker? Did you even listen to the speech?  Reagan was a philosophical and oratorical giant. He recognized evil and knew exactly how to deal with it. He brought down the Soviet Union by escalating the arms race until the Soviets went bankrupt.  Gorbachev did not take power until a year into Reagan’s second term. Read your history.  Gorbachev was a consequence of Reagan’s genius.
