The iPhone just announced new firmware version 3.0. It’s amazing the role that marketing hype has on the psyche of consumers. All of the enhancements such as cut and paste, mms messaging, and A2DP stereo bluetooth have been available for years on Windows Mobile. Still no ability to use the iPhone as a modem to connect your laptop to the internet. You can “jailbreak” your phone and use PDANet but I’m not sure if that will still be a possibility with 3.0. Apple considers hacking their phone to be an illegal copyright violation. Typical Apple stupidity. By trying to control everything, they limit the capabilities of their products. The Mac didn’t really take off until they put it on an Intel chipset and allowed people to put Windows on it which is why I have a MacBook Pro now. You’d think they’d learn. They make incredible hardware, but they are so shortsighted when it comes to software. Also iPhone has no Flash capabilities. Windows Mobile has an awesome new browser called Skyfire which is free and created by a 3rd party that plays Flash video. I have no idea how they do it since Adobe has not released a flash player for Windows Mobile yet. It works great though. You can watch any tv show or movie on Hulu no problem. There is still no Slingbox available for iPhone although it is coming soon.
Now that iPhone has almost caught up to Windows Mobile, I would actually consider getting one except that AT&T is still too expensive. Sprint has the right idea especially these days by offering much more inclusive plans for less money.
