Russia making U.S. look good

Russia is doing their best impression of Nazi Germany who annexed Austria and Sudetenland to “protect” ethnic Germans living outside Germany.  Soon after the Nazis would roll over every country in Eastern and Western Europe as the world looked the other way.   Russia has entered Georgia to “protect its Russian citizens” living outside of Russia.  Next will come the Ukraine and Belarus and so on.   NATO and the former Soviet Eastern Block countries need to stand up to this bully and say, “NOT THIS TIME!”   Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.   Putin is acting like a madman.  Perhaps he is getting advice from Rasputin.

One benefit will be a rallying around the West (U.S.) for protection.  We will probably see every Eastern Block country drop their objection to troops and missile defense as clearly they need some sort of deterrence.  Clearly a major miscalculation on Russia’s part as long as we have the resolve to confront them with effective measures.

So what should they do that they are not doing already?

  2. I would like to see all our allies aggressively confront this before Russia becomes emboldened and decides to test us even further.  I like the missile deals coming out.  I would also set up military bases in these threatened Eastern European countries with not just the U.S., but with all NATO countries sending a signal that this will not be allowed to happen again.  I would also kick them out of the G8 if they tried it one more time.  Give them an inch, they’ll take a mile.
