McCain on a roll

McCain has been on a roll lately. Check out the latest ad.

I am a little concerned about his suggestion that a pro-choice candidate might be ok for VP. He will lose the base and damage the Republican party even further. I’m fairly sure he wouldn’t really make a mistake like that.

Well now that I think about it, in principle, I would really not approve of a pro-choice VP. However, I suppose it would depend on the candidate. I could tolerate someone like Giuliani or maybe even Lieberman as VP choice, but they would have to seriously impress me in other areas to make up for it. AND I would want assurances about strict constructionist Supreme Court Justices should they ever be put in that position.

I hate these kind of ads. They try to be cute and funny but usually end up sounding bitter and jealous. I have seen one negative ad from Barack Obama (the one where he says McCain is in the pocket of the big oil companies) and I didn’t like that one either.

  2. I like them.  McCain has to do something to diminish the rockstar following Obama has.  I think humor is the best way to do it.   It prevents him from looking mean spirited in my view as the left would like to portray him.  This is a strange election where issues matter less than cult of personality. I’m sure they have tested purely issues based messages against those mixed with humor.    Humor really catches people’s attention and these ads are memorable.   I don’t see them as really being negative.  I see Obama’s celebrity as an issue McCain really needs to confront and deflate since it is the shiny object that distracts voters from what’s really important like my taxes going up and confronting aggression around the world.

Obama’s Big Oil attacks are not in the least bit entertaining.  They are old and tired and people see through the rhetoric.  Obama needs his Hollywood friends to get more creative.

I still don’t see why it’s to McCain’s advantage to concede the point that his opponent is incredibly popular – especially when he is trying to sway independent voters (like me). I find these ads superficial and insulting. The same goes for Obama’s negative ads.

  4. Well it must be working on somebody else because he has closed the gap and there’s a good reason they’re using it.
