Obama, biggest celebrity in the world

I think I might faint.

I heard Dick Morris say that Obama is actually losing to McCain with women over 40. A woman on Rush today explained it as women know a smooth talker when they hear it. At first they like it, but eventually they need more.

McCain has a right to call Obama’s experience into question, but not this way. I thought McCain was better than this. I’m disappointed.

  2. Hey Silke,

I understand the point that McCain is trying to make that Obama is all style and no substance.  There is an irrational hysteria over him like he’s one of the Beatles.  I think he’s trying to diminish Obama’s rock star/celebrity image and get the debate back to the issues which he thinks he can win.  I was actually surprised by the ad myself.  It did seem out of character but he has been getting a lot of criticism lately for not being aggressive enough.  It’s almost as if he isn’t trying hard enough to win.  They say nice guys finish last.  Obama is like teflon. It seems like nothing sticks. It’s going to take an awful lot of effort to tarnish him.

Personally I think the ad says more about McCain than it does about Obama. To imply that a fellow Senator is as shallow and brainless as Paris and Britney shows a lack of class. It also isn’t particularly smart to reinforce the idea that your opponent is popular at home and has unprecedented worldwide appeal. Instead of promoting his own ideas and policies McCain ends up sounding bitter and jealous.

  4. I didn’t see it as accusing Obama as shallow and brainless but accusing his worshipers of being shallow and brainless. But I agree that it is strange to emphasize your opponent’s strengths. What did you think about Barack injecting race into the discussion?

“Nobody thinks that Bush and McCain have a real answer to the challenges we face. So what they’re going to try to do is make you scared of me. You know, ‘he’s not patriotic enough, he’s got a funny name,’ you know, ‘he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.’”

I haven’t heard McCain say anything remotely close to that. One thing I have actually admired about Obama is his ability to rise above race issues. I hope he isn’t getting some bad advice.

That’s even worse, especially if you’re trying to convince someone to vote for you instead of Obama. Again, McCain comes off as desperate and that’s not a quality I look for in a President.

As for what do I think about Obama’s comments…I am truly getting tired of both sides trying to characterize the other side’s comments (and they are both guilty of it). It’s getting ridiculous and it has nothing to do with the actual issues or policies that will affect me.
