When did the Beat LA chant begin?

The first time the famous BEAT LA! chant in Boston was actually heard wasn’t actually from a game against the LA Lakers.  It’s from 1982 Conference Finals Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76′ers.  With 26 seconds left in the game and clearly the Celtics could not win, the Boston crowd started the “Beat LA” chant in support of the Sixers.

Pretty cool eh?

It reminds me of the time when Boston fans started chanting “Yankees Suck!” during the Patriots Super Bowl victory parade.
