What is up with this Southern tradition of calling adults by their first name? Why is it ok to introduce me to a child as Mr. Scott or Coach Scott? (btw Scott is my first name) When I was growing up, I was always taught to call an adult by the proper salutation of Mr. Smith or Mr. Jones, not Mr. John or Mr. Tim. I find it a bit disrespectful. Am I wrong?
