How to fix American Idol

What goes up must come down and that would be American Idol’s ratings. Let’s face it. The show is predictable and boring. It’s even worse when the contestants are predictable and boring. They need to change it up. This year they added in the call-in segment which is just annoying. One thing we have discussed and embraced during the weekly AI heckling at My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is to change the voting from voting to keep your favorites to voting to eliminate the ones you can’t stand. Very rarely do any of us actually vote, but if we could try get rid of Susan (Dave Archuleta), Poopy (Jason Castro), or Sciatica (Syesha) we wouldn’t hang the phone up. We could also have Frank Luntz do a live dial focus group.

What would you change?

I would make sure one of the finalists was from Alabama!  In truth that’s what kept me interested.  I had never heard of AI until they started talking about Reuben on the radio.  As luck would have it, Bo Bice, then Taylor Hicks came along and it was fun to watch.  Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think the talent this year is as good as it has been.  It is painful to watch sometimes.  I know I’ve hit the mute button more this year than ever.  The liveblogging at MVRWC is much more entertaining than the actual show.
    As for what I’d change, I think I would get rid of Paula.

  2. I think the producers have deliberately avoided Alabama contestants because we seem to be very supportive and organized.   It’s very foolish.

    I think Randy could be replaced.  He says the same thing all the time.   Paula is comic relief and everyone watches to see if she’s under the influence of something.

Have you ever watched the British version of AI?  Simon’s on it too, but the other two judges put Paula and Randy to shame.  (I state that opinion based on the few times I’ve watched it on YouTube.)  I know Paula’s good for comic relief but sometimes I just can’t stand to watch her.  Might be a girl thing :)

  4. I’ve only seen some of the contestants, not the judges.  But then again everything sounds better with a British accent.

  6. Something weird just happened, I don’t know if my comment made it or not!  Anyway, I have not disabled CommentLuv.  What is supposed to happen when it finds my feed?  Maybe I don’t have a feed?  I will try to figure this out.  If you have any thoughts, please let me know!
