I am still on my diet. I’m not in as bad shape as I originally thought. I got on the scale Friday and it turns out I lost about 8 lbs. just from being sick the last two weeks, so really I only have about 20 lbs to go. I think it was the Progresso Soup Diet.
Even though it’s a little chilly, I started up the grill and had hotdogs and cheeseburgers without the bun all weekend. It’s the perfect low carb meal and my favorite foods. The best part about a low carb diet is that there are virtually no cravings and you don’t get tired from an insulin rush after you eat.
The biggest mistake people make on this diet is not keeping their fat intake high enough. If you go low fat AND low carb you will not have any energy at all. The body normally stores the fat for later because the body prefers carbs for energy. When you’re in ketosis, you’re burning fat so don’t worry about eating it since it keeps your metabolism high. Ketosis happens when the body uses up all its glycogen stores (muscle sugar) and starts burning fat as a secondary source of fuel. This is the reason why people are usually told they need to exercise for 20 minutes before they’ll start burning fat for energy. On the low carb diet, you don’t eat or store any carbs so you get right into fat burning. Also you don’t get any insulin response. Insulin is a big factor in diabetes and heart disease. It is also the hormone that stores fat in the body.
