I’m on a diet

It hit me today. I am disgusting.

Luckily I have friends at work who are more than eager to agree with my assessment. At baseball practice the other day, someone commented on how my shirt really showed off my man boobs and that I’ve got that Phil Mickelson look going. I need to go on a diet and start working out again. Summer is just 2 months away and my 40th birthday is 4 months away. I refuse to go through the summer and into middle age looking like this (no you won’t get any before photos). Last year I did Nutrisystems and lost 20 lbs. That worked ok but is over $300/month and you still have to buy additional food on top of that. I have gained back 30 lbs of course. This year I am doing the Atkins low carb diet. I’ve done this one many times in the past and it’s really the easiest one for me to stay on. Any diet that includes all the meat you can eat is ok with me. The hardest part of starting a diet is ignoring all the bad food I already have at home. For example, I had planned to have a turkey sandwich on wheat today for lunch and it seems such a waste to throw that bread out, but it’s all about discipline. I went to the store and bought lettuce instead. Sandwiches just aren’t the same on lettuce but I have to remember the big picture.

Why am I blogging about this? To shame myself into staying on this diet. I encourage you all to call me fat names or whatever it takes to keep me on this.

  1. Hi Scott!

I wouldn’t call you ‘fat.’ Lord knows, after my wedding (and a year and a half of dieting), I ate everything in sight! Now I’m fighting to get back down to my “pre-wedding” size … which isn’t a whole lot, but as one who has an insatiable sweet tooth, it’s all about discipline.

Good luck with your goal. Remember that it’s not so much a number (or pants size) to fixate on when dieting, but a state where you feel good and are healthy! :)

  2. Oh Nicki you are too kind :)

I really just don’t want to feel too embarrassed taking my kids to the pool this summer. My son is going to be 10 next month and he is getting so big and strong, I need to be able to keep up with him!

If I looked as good as you, I wouldn’t need to diet. ;)
