Following the recommendations of General Petraeus, George Bush will announce a drawdown of 30,000 troops by next summer which will effectively return the troops to pre-surge levels.
Since there is nothing the President can do to please his critics, this move will likely be met by criticism by the same crowd who has been demanding a troop reduction and an end to the surge. Unless Bush dismantles the military and dissolves the U.S. government by ceding its authority to the U.N. or maybe even Venezuela, his critics will never be happy with anything he does so I’m sure he is not “bowing to the pressure” of the anti-war left.
