Hillary Clinton caused quite a stir this week when she said that a terrorist attack prior to the election would help the GOP. She of course is correct because the politics of appeasement and a strategy of negotiating with terrorists does not work. A few weeks ago, Stu Bykofsky wrote an article called, To Save America, We Need Another 9/11 When I first read it, I feared he might be right. Of course everyone gets wrapped up in the headline and not the substance. The article would have been ignored with a less provocative headline. The author is not desirous of a tragedy, but worries we can only unite through tragedy. America is truly a sleeping giant that enjoys its sleep immensely. It is difficult to wake us up.
We seem to do enough to not lose, but never enough to win. Enough to get elected, but not enough to make us safe. I wish we had the resolve to take the steps necessary to protect ourselves, but Americans have rapidly fading memories. We are distracted by our own success and a media that would rather root for the downfall of Michael Vick, Barry Bonds, Anna Nicole Smith, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan than the downfall of our enemies. There are formerly marginalized factions within our own country that want us to lose and have succeeded in dividing a great nation which was once united.
