TB sneaks through Candian border

The man who is being treated by the CDC for a highly resistant strain of TB claims he did not know that his TB was this dangerous until he had arrived in Europe for his wedding. After finding out he was put on the no-fly list, he flew to Canada instead. He and his wife decided to sneak back in the U.S. for medical help by driving over the border. Actually let me clarify that a bit. They didn’t actually sneak in, they just drove right in like everyone else. They even had their passports checked.

We spend so much time worrying about our southern border, that I wonder when people are going to realize we have a similar problem up north and securing only one border will not make us any safer. After all, some of the 9/11 terrorists entered the country through Canada as well as other foiled terrorists we’ve captured already. Are we really concerned with our country’s security or are we just using terrorism as an excuse to go after illegal latin immigrants instead? Let’s keep our eye on the ball people. Remember what is really important.

  1. I heard this morning the border patrol agent that let him through has been either fired or put on leave (my short term memory is gone!) Hopefully this incident will result in some changes at the Canadian border, probably just wishful thinking, I know.

Has any information come out as to how this man was exposed to TB? Or how the CDC found out he had it? I’ve not read all the reporting on it so I may have missed it.

  2. I have not heard how he got it yet, but I did hear about the border patrol agent getting in trouble.

One thing I did read yesterday is that the guy’s father-in-law works for the CDC!!! The father-in-law must have known and probably went to their wedding in Greece. This is a bizarre story

  3. Bizarre it is.

A short story. When I was just a little girl, my Grandfather was diagnosed with TB. He had to go to a sanatorium (quarantined). The whole family was tested for TB, a very good idea I might add, and none of us tested positive. After Papa had been at the sanatorium for about a week or so, the doctors realized he had been mis-diagnosed. He came home, happy he did not have TB, and I never heard him complain about the quarantine. Never once. He was just glad we were all healthy.

And this guy gets on a plane, potentially infecting many more people. There’s more to this story, surely it will come out. But for a fact, he’s not the man Papa was (of course in my eyes, no man is!)
