I’m starting my own country

From time to time, I feel like throwing my hands up and starting my own country. I ran into another reason today at c.a. Marks’ (Carol’s) site, Alabama Improper

I thought it was a joke when I first read it. Carol correctly states that “California has lost its ever-lovin mind”. She quotes catholicnewsagency.com

Sacramento, May 25, 2007 / 10:53 am (CNA).- Radical legislation, mandating that schoolchildren as young as kindergarten learn about transsexuality, bisexuality and homosexuality, has passed the California State Senate.

SB 777 requires textbooks, instructional materials, and school-sponsored activities to positively portray cross-dressing, sex-change operations, same-sex marriages, all aspects of homosexuality and bisexuality, and so-called “gay history.” Silence on these sexual lifestyles will not be allowed.

Yesterday’s vote, 23 to 13, was on a party line — Democrats for, Republicans against. No Republican senator rose to speak against the bill.

SB 777 would teach these sexual subjects without parental permission. The new mandate would be enforced by the attorneys of the California Department of Education, which would sue school districts that do not comply.

“The notion of forcing children to support controversial sexual lifestyles is shocking and appalling to millions of fathers and mothers,” said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families (CCF). The group is calling on the governor to pledge to veto the bill.

“Parents don’t want their children taught to become homosexual or bisexual or to wonder whether they need a sex-change operation,” said Thomasson. “SB 777 will shatter the academic purpose of education by turning every government school into a sexual indoctrination center.”

The bill would also replace the definition of sex in the Education Code, which currently reads: “Sex means the biological condition or quality of being a male or female human being.”

It would be replaced with “Gender means sex, and includes a person’s gender identity and gender related appearance and behavior whether or not stereotypically associated with the person’s assigned sex at birth.”

The definition was authored by lesbian Senator Sheila Kuehl.

All I can say is Schwarzenegger better veto this or I’m starting my own country.

My new country will need a name. Something representative of common sense, patriotism, freedom, and strength. I’m open to suggestions. My country will also need a Constitution which we have learned we better get right from the start. I’ll start the first draft of ideas which is subject to change and suggestions. Just some thoughts off the top of my head. Not quite Jeffersonian yet.

1. Freedom of Speech - Still love this one. In my country you have a right to be a complete and utter moron. And people can point out what a moron you are. May the best ideas prevail. I also a big believer in changing the channel.

2. Freedom of Religion - Anyone can participate in any religion they choose including no religion at all. I like the separation of Church and State which will prevent the State from establishing a State religion which has historically been shown to be very dangerous and oppressive. I’m all for common sense though and that would include the display of religious symbols. Christmas Trees, nativity scenes, Menorahs, 10 commandments, anything goes. Are you “offended” by the the word Christmas or God or Allah? Tough. Get over it. You’re not gonna rain on anyone’s parade. Usually these people are not really harmed or offended in any way, they just pretend to be to make impose their political will. If your symbol isn’t represented, then display it! No one will be allowed to stop you. At the same time, any atheist symbols or holidays will be treated with equal respect. In my country, there can be no preference shown for one religion over another. Public schools have a choice they can teach no religion or teach all religions in an educational, social, and historical context including atheism. No teacher can say that any one religion has more value than another. Religion will not be taught in science class. Religion can not be used to incite violence or treason.

3. Treasonous behavior will not be tolerated. This may have some impact on Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion, but undermining the the security of the nation will not be tolerated. Stuffing classified documents in your pants and destroying them will put you in prison forever. You will simply have to win the next election if you don’t like the administration’s foreign policy. Or you can move to the United States.

4. Sex offenders will never, ever get out of prison. No sex-offender registry, no colored license plates, no ankle bracelets.

5. Death penalty? Yes or No? There are some practical instances where I support it but I do find myself conflicted at times ethically. Prison will not be fun though. No TV, no weights, no sports, just hard labor.

5. The military is authorized to use ANY means necessary to defeat our enemies. If we can protect innocent lives, great, but we will not show our enemy any mercy. No handcuffs on my military. Get ‘er done!

6. No legislating from the bench. My Constitution will ensure that judges strictly interpret the laws, not create them. If the law is not explicitly written in the Constitution, the people WILL decide. If they find the laws vague, they will order the Congress to rewrite them more clearly. I will have a way to remove rogue activist judges from the bench.

7. You can do anything you want to yourself as long as it does not harm another person. In theory I like this idea. However practically there are some problems. How do you define what may hurt another person? What if you are just hurting society in general?

8. Frivolous lawsuits will be prosecuted such as the one I saw today where a woman sued her son’s little league for not teaching him how to slide into 2nd base. Also, no one will be able to recover damages for emotional distress. There will be no cry babies in my country.

9. Everything is based on merit. There is no claim to discrimination unless you can prove that you were more qualified. Qualifications of course vary in each circumstance. Qualifications for getting into Harvard differ from qualifications for working at Hooters. At Harvard you must excel academically, at Hooters you must excel physically. There are no exceptions or protections for age, race, sex, etc. Perform and you will be rewarded in life. There is no affirmative action or quotas. Everyone gets an equal opportunity and that’s it. Including white males. You all get to go to school and make the most of it. After that, you are on your own. If you decide to not take advantage of your education, then good luck to ya.

10. There will be a consumption tax, no income tax. With a consumption tax, everyone decides how much tax they want to pay. No tax on necessities like food, medicine, and clothing. There will be no luxury tax for luxury items. Everyone is treated the same.

11. Sex and sexuality will be taught at home no exceptions.

12. Everyone is responsible for their own actions. Abortion will be illegal. You don’t like it? Move to the United States and have it done there. There are no “accidents”. You can’t trip over someone and accidentally get them pregnant. Everyone knows what happens when you have sex. If you’re willing to take the risks, you’re willing to take the responsibility. I want to make an exception for rape and to save the life of a mother and I still might. It poses an ethical dilemma to do so and it may encourage women to make false rape claims against innocent men if it’s their only option (don’t tell me that doesn’t happen. Duke lacrosse??), but it seems inherently unfair to make someone be responsible for carrying a child they did not consent to. Better use the morning after pill though. There is no waiting several months to make up your mind. And how do you ask someone to die for someone else? I can’t do that. Children get pregnant? Make the child’s parents raise their grandchildren. Ultimately parents are responsible for what their children do.

11. Children will not receive trophies simply for participation unless they win a championship.

I’m just getting started on this. I’m sure many amendments to follow.
