The Daily Mail has a “shocking headline”:

Global warming sees polar bears stranded on melting ice

OH NO! The poor bears! If you are like most people, you will see the headline and the photo and not read any of the article which shows that polar bears can swim for hundreds of miles! They are not stranded. They got there, they can get back.

The article also claims that the ice is moving further from land which somehow puts stress on the bears by making them swim farther to the ice. First of all, ice floats. I don’t see how it is possible for an ice floe to be expected to stay still. Next, where was this ice floe yesterday? Last Week? Did it even exist 20 Years ago? The picture could be well cropped. I wonder if you had a wider view of the landscape if there is actually more ice than you see and that land is actually nearby. This is not proof of anything.

I keep an open mind about these sorts of things, but seriously I need more than a picture here and a picture there to demonstrate global warming. And even if global warming can be proven to exist, scientists need to further prove that it is caused by man and not just a natural cycle of events.

I don’t know why we let the media manipulate us like this. I suppose if you say you care more about something than the other guy, then you must be right.

I don’t believe things just because some celebrity insists it’s true and calls me names, but I believe in overwhelming scientific evidence that can be tested and tested again successfully, I will be convinced. The Theory of Evolution to me is a good comparison. There is great scientific evidence that proves evolution is an actual scientific phenomenon. To me it is the overwhelming evidence which convinced me, not just a few photos and an Al Gore movie. However, the Intelligent Design crowd insists it is untrue because The Bible says otherwise and it is an affront to their sensibilities that we have descended from lesser life forms. Now as I’ve said before, one can easily come to the conclusion that God designed evolution, but for some, that is still an incorrect conclusion. However, you are not going to convince me that Evolution doesn’t exist without any scientific evidence to back it up.

Global warming causes stronger hurricanes they say. 2006 was going to be the worst year ever. Not one single hurricane hit. Anchorage Alaska had a record snowfall this year. I’m freezing my butt off in Birmingham Alabama the past few weeks. Do I now have examples proving a coming Ice Age? According to the burden of proof used for global warming I have.

Wouldn’t it be a shame if global warming was actually caused by man, but nobody believed it because the advocates all cry wolf? When they are given the opportunity to convince us, there was no wolf to be found. How about acting like scientists instead of politicians and get rid of the emotional blackmail.
