I just wanted to say hello to my good friends (even the liberal ones) over at Birmingham Allergy & Asthma Specialists, PC who started reading my blog today.
Most liberals don’t even realize that they actually have mostly conservative values. I’m not talking Republican and Democrat, this is strictly liberal vs. conservative. You don’t need to like the Republican party, who has recently strayed from some of their ideals, to be conservative.
I like to ask them these questions:
- Does it take a village or does it take a family to raise children properly?
- Do you believe government should be bigger or smaller?
- Who makes better fiscal decisions, you or the government?
- Do you feel the government should spend more than they take in?
- Should you pay more taxes or less taxes? Is it fair if only those who makes more money than you pay more taxes?
- Should the courts only interpret the law or be allowed to create laws that you agree with?
- Should the government control anything you do in your private life if it doesn’t affect anybody else?
- Should the government be allowed to seize your home to replace it with a shopping mall?
- Should you teach a person to fish or give him/her fish instead?
- Do you believe our military should be the strongest in the world?
- Do you think terrorists are responsible for 9/11 or did we bring it upon ourselves?
- Do you think success should be rewarded or penalized?
- Who creates more jobs, a rich man or a poor man?
- Is competition inherently good or evil?
- Do you believe in providing equal opportunity is the best way to achieve success or do some groups deserve preferential treatment?
- Do you believe in right and wrong or are there always shades of gray?
- Who knows what is best for you and your family, you or the goverment?
- Are you proud to be an American or ashamed to be an American?
I think it’s obvious which answers represent conservative values and they also represent the values of most Americans including self-proclaimed moderate liberals. I know it’s hard to accept, so I’ll give you some time to get used to it.
Here is a transcript of one of my favorite speeches at the 2004 Republican Convention.
