I don’t normally like to resort to name calling, but the shoe fits. I was listening to Michael Savage on the way home from work. I do this because I like talk radio and it’s the only conservative show I can find on the dial after 5pm. Although I don’t appreciate Savage’s delivery, his point of view is interesting. However, today he was mocking former President George H. W. Bush for crying while giving a speech to Florida’s lawmakers at his son’s, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, leadership forum. He was using his son as an example of leadership and broke down crying in mid sentence. When I got home, I decided to watch it for myself.
The man is 82 years for goodness sake and was clearly extremely proud of his son and he certainly should be. For Savage to mock that as weak, shows his own weakness as a person. He said that the President showed weakness in front of the world and made his son, the President, look even weaker. He compared the weakness of the Elder Bush to the strength of Iran’s President Ahamdinejad and Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez. He said that Ahamdinejad and Chavez would never cry in public. This is probably true but is a completely ridiculous comparison. I would not use these two meglomaniacs as examples of how a leader should behave.
Savage is quite self-absorbed and perhaps his sole intent is to shock people into talking about him, sort of like a child that misbehaves for attention. Well then, Mission Accomplished.
GHWB is a better man and father than Savage could ever hope to be.
