Vincente Fox is the embarassment

Drudge/Yahoo is reporting that Vincente Fox has said the 700 mile fence is an embarrassment for the United States.

President Vicente Fox told reporters in the Caribbean resort city of Cancun that the fence would not stop millions of Mexicans from heading north in search of jobs.

“It is an embarrassment for the United States,” Fox said. “It is proof, perhaps, that the United States does not see immigration as a subject that corresponds to both countries.”

President-elect Felipe Calderon, who takes over from Fox on Dec. 1, agreed.

“The decision made by Congress and the U.S. government is deplorable,” Calderon said while on tour in Canada. “Humanity committed a grave error by constructing the Berlin wall and I am sure that today the United States is committing a grave error in constructing a wall along our northern border.”

What is truly embarrassing is that Vincente Fox and Mexico are too inept and corrupt to build their economy to the point where people are not fleeing the country. We are not the welfare state or jobs program for Mexico. Mexico has enough resources to stand on its own.

The difference between the Berlin Wall and the border fence is that one was designed to keep people from leaving, and one was designed to keep people from entering illegally including terrorists. If Vincente Fox really cared about “a subject that corresponds to both countries”, he would not try to impinge on our sovereign rights. He should help us protect our laws and get behind a worker visa program. Also, if Mexico wants to be a business partner with the U.S., they should be a better ally in world affairs.

What I need to better understand is why the fence is only 700 miles and only covers 1/3 of the border?

  1. whats even more dumber is building a billion dollar fense.

Build a 10 foot fense and they’ll just bring a 11 foot ladder.

  3. Not sure how I got here but here I am. The ‘fence’ is a joke and a waste, no doubt. Mexico’s economy is inefficient, at best, no doubt. A billion dollars towards enforcing current labor laws would stop the inflow, no doubt. We can put a man on the moon but cannot prevent an employer from hiring an employee who doesn’t have legal clearance to work in this country? The liberal/conservative labels are divisive, is that how we define ourselves as Americans?. Hope ‘Bama is treating a Yankee alright…paz.

  4. Hi jb,

Thanks for stopping by! I thought the different comment categories might encourage some debate. I’d like to think we are all on the same side with the same common values, but lately I have to wonder. It seems to me that politicians are far too eager to sell out their own country to retain or regain power.

We are loving Bama! We’ve been here about 2 years. The people are fantastic. But don’t say “Yankee” to me! I’m a Boston guy. I can’t possibly consider myself a Yankee! Go Sox!

Thomas’ grammar and spelling is so bad, I would hope he didn’t grow up in this country, but you never know these days.
