I’m very sad today. The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, was killed yesterday by a sting ray which was hiding in the sand as he swam over it. The sting ray’s barb pierced his chest. I had the opportunity to live in Australia for 8 months and went to the Australian Zoo that he ran. He just happened to be there that day with his wife. He was larger than life and seemed invincible.
When I was there, one of Steve’s croc handlers, Wes, was back on the job for the first time since he was almost killed by Graham one of their largest crocodiles. Graham snuck up on Wes and bit him in the rear. Steve jumped on the crocodile’s back and twisted his hind leg until he let go. Wes spent 3 weeks in the hospital and was now facing Graham for the first time.
Steve sure will be missed.
