According to Fox News this morning, the French newspaper l’Est Republicain is reporting that UBL died on August 23rd. L’Est Republicain obtained a document leaked by “French Intelligence” (LOL at oxymoron) which says,
“The chief of Al Qaeda was a victim of a severe typhoid crisis while in Pakistan on August 23, 2006.”
He was apparently paralyzed and could not receive medical attention. The French allegedly obtained this information from Saudi secret services. Yes, this is the same “French Intelligence” that assured us that Saddam had WMD’s.
U.S officials discount this report. They say that terrorist chatter gives no indication of his death. The French Defense Ministry is outraged by the leak.
I find it interesting that the French are so upset by this. Do they really know something which perhaps they were trying to keep quiet until the U.S. elections have passed to help out their socialist friends? As a Fox News analyst pointed out, President Musharraf of Pakistan entered into a truce with Taliban tribal leaders about the same time as bin Laden’s reported death.
There is always the possibility that bin Laden is faking his own death. I don’t really see how that could help his cause though. Maybe he just wants the heat off him for a while so he can retire in Montana.
