When I first moved down to Birmingham, I called Charter Cable to set up my television and internet. I had always had cable so I didn’t consider another option. They came by while I was at work and put the cable right through the middle of the carpet in the living room floor. They also poked a hole in my brick basement wall big enough for a anaconda to slide through. The cable also ran across my lawn and across the street. Needless to say I switched to DirecTV and BellSouth DSL.
I have Vonage which I loved once I got off their marketing list. They called me EVERY NIGHT from India trying to get me to add another line. I shouldn’t pick on Vonage because BellSouth does the same thing to me. The only drawback with having DSL over Cable internet is that BellSouth forces you to pay for basic phone service in order to have their DSL. So on a ill-advised whim, I decided to call Charter just to inquire about what it would cost to just get their internet service so I could ditch BellSouth. I then called BellSouth and told them that I was about to switch if they didn’t do something to lower my bill. BellSouth immediately and dramatically lowered my DSL rate which eliminated any benefit I would gain by switching to cable.
I thought every thing was settled but last night I got a call from Charter telling me that they were coming to install my cable internet today. I told them I never ordered cable internet. They apologized and said they would cancel it. I got a call this morning from Charter saying they would be at my house in a few minutes to install my cable internet. I couldn’t stop laughing at them. You just know I’m going to start receiving a bill for the service I never ordered.
Let this be a lesson to you all. DO NOT USE CHARTER CABLE!!! Don’t even call them with a question! At least not in Birmingham anyways. They are a bunch of buffoons.
