Why is the world a mess?

The United Nations.  It’s just that simple.  The U.N. is completely and utterly ineffective.  There are too many competing interests for anything to get accomplished.  All the members of the security council are determined to undermine each other.  They use the governments of their weaker allies as pawns trying to tip the balance of power in their favor regardless of what the long term effects on the stability of the world may be. As long as we give legitimacy to this ridiculous entity, we leave ourselves in danger.

Every resolution is toothless.  Every action is thwarted and condemned.  As Colin Powell stated, the U.N. is on the brink of irrelevance. In my opinion, they’ve never been relevant.  We simply go through the motions each time until we show the world that we tried to play it their way but once again we have to go it alone.  Countries like Iran and Saddam’s Iraq manipulate the U.N. knowing that the longer the game is played, the greater their chance for survival.  My biggest fear is that one day we will waste so much time pursuing the pointless U.N. diplomacy that Iran will get “The Bomb” while we are still trying to overcome Russia and China’s objection to harsh condemnation.  Imagine Hezbollah with an atomic bomb.  It’s not a remote possibility.  Say goodnight Gracie.
