Bush 40%
Congress 29%
The Fox News Opinion Dynamics Poll shows President Bush’s approval numbers up 5% from May to June from 35% to 40%. Although the approval numbers for Congress rose 2 points from 27% to 29%, their disapproval rating also rose 5%. So as Bush is gaining in popularity, Congress continues to drop. I was not aware that Congress had numbers lower than the President. Although this does not reflect well upon the Republicans who have the majority, it also is not impressive for the Democrats who have taken great joy in gloating over the President’s numbers recently. It stands to reason that if the President becomes more popular, his party should increase as well, so much of the disapproval may be due to the Democrats. I’m sure the negative numbers are influenced by their inability to cooperate on Iraq and immigration. Perhaps the press should be beating up the Congress rather than the President. The Republicans should get a bounce today from the vote supporting the mission in Iraq. It will be interesting to see which of the whiny Democrats will actually vote against this.
