In the Boston Globe, there is an open letter from Adjunct Professor Steve Almond to Boston College President, Father William Leahy. In the letter, Almond resigns his insignificant teaching position to take a stand against Condoleeza Rice being the commencement speaker this year. I guess he thinks that that students shouldn’t be allowed to listen to the most powerful minority woman to ever serve our country because she is a conservative. I guess he showed them. He sure is brave resigning from a transitory position with nominal pay when he has an entire career to fall back on.
I personally think this is fantastic. Now he must be very smart. He is a writer AND a professor after all. This letter is probably a cover for his real motivation. I think he has realized that the real harm is not Dr. Rice speaking for a few hours, but how liberal professors have been polluting and brainwashing young minds and he’s taking a stand by removing himself from that environment. He just can’t say that in front of his friends and colleagues. If only all radical professors could get this outraged and resign as well over something this pointless. Well done Ex-Professor Almond! Keep up the good work!
