All eyes trained on Stern – The Boston Globe
And we thought we needed Coco Crispies. They need to name a breakfast cereal after Adam Stern.
Stern, the Red Sox’ Rule 5 draftee from the Atlanta Braves a year ago who spent much of last season on the disabled list, vaulted his way into Canadian folklore with what some were calling the greatest baseball game ever by a Canadian, in a stunning 8-6 win over the United States in the first round of the World Baseball Classic before a crowd of 16,993.
Another Red Sox plus is that Jason Varitek hit a grand slam for the US in an 8-6 loss to Canada.
How in the world can the US lose to Canada in baseball? I can understand the Dominican Republic or maybe even Japan or Cuba, but Canada?? How embarrassing. The curse of ARod has not only infected the Yankees but now the entire US squad. Maybe he forgot his purse and couldn’t slap the ball away from anyone.
