Julian Bond should be grateful he didn’t say anything to offend the radical muslims of the world. A few cartoons in bad taste depicted the muslim prophet Mohammed in an unflattering manner. Apparently this is grounds to put on ski masks, carry guns and threaten to kill people. Memories of Salman Rushdie have returned.
If a artist committed blasphemy against any other religious groups such as Christians, Jews, Mormons, Buddhists, etc, they would simply shake their heads and wonder what was wrong with that moron and try to not give him the attention he craves. Perhaps there would be some public outcry or boycott but I’m fairly sure the artist’s life would not be in danger. I guarantee these same overly offended muslims take great delight whenever they are presented with images degradging to Israel and Jews.
Why do we lower our own standards to kowtow to absurbity of these bullies. Instead of placating them, we should be demanding that they rise up to the same standards of tolerance and free speech a civilized society demands.
If America had the same standards as these backwards people, many Americans would be in prison or dead over the vitriolic hate spewed toward the President and conservatives.
