Annoying companies. NetFlix, YMCA

NETFLIX
‘Throttling’ angers Netflix renters - Boston.com

NetFlix moves “heavy renters” to the bottom of the priority list to receive their top selections and intentionally delays shipments to these renters to ensure that they maintain a profit even though their website promises next day delivery. I’m really glad someone takes the time to uncover these deceptive practices. Nothing angers me more than shady companies. I had just been considering trying NetFlix and this article saved me a big headache.

YMCA
I signed up at the Pelham, Shelby County YMCA here in Alabama last October when I signed The Fred up for YMCA basketball. They had just purchased a bunch of Sports First fitness clubs and there is one very close to my house. That was the deciding factor to sign up. I was told that I could work out there starting in January. In December I inquired again about when I could start working out at the new club and they said I could attend now but there was an “upgrade fee” so my family membership changed from $66 to $78 per month. I asked them if they would let my son work-out with me at Sports First and they said yes.

We had been working out together after each basketball practice and game in Pelham. I took my son to the new club on Saturday and they told me he could not work-out until he was 14 despite the fact that I was supervising him. I mentioned that he plays Oak Mountain football and is very well behaved. I offered to sign a waiver, but of course they gave me the old cliche, if we let him work out, we’ll have to let all the member’s children work out. Heaven forbid that kids should be allowed to exercise with their parents. Needless to say I will cancel my membership today.
