My commentary on news, politics, family, life and sports.

Come on ESPN!

Please please PLEASE filter out the awful vuvuzela sound from the World Cup Games. It can be done. It is ruining the games. Right now I’ll only watch the U.S. games. I can’t take any more.

No need to fear, Obama is in charge

Day 56: Obama decides to visit the Gulf Coast to assess the damage of the oil spill.  He then compares the oil spill to the 9/11 tragedy.

“In the same way that our view of our vulnerabilities and our foreign policy was shaped profoundly by 9/11, I think this disaster is going to shape how we think about the environment and energy for many years to come,” Mr Obama said.

I think it’s safe to say we now know how he will respond to another terrorist attack. He will declare he’s in charge, look for “ass to kick”, blame others, and do nothing. Ah the qualities of Hope and Change.

Apple in a bad relationship

I can’t figure out why Apple insists on using AT&T for the iPhone.  The 3G coverage is awful and the network is always congested.  Now they are eliminating the unlimited data plan to deter people from using data.   New pricing takes place June 7 so if you want an iPhone with unlimited data, you’d better get it now.

I don’t really see the point of Apple releasing the iPhone 4G this summer since that will eat up even more data.

Manny is a stud

My son Manny took first place in Greco/Roman wrestling at the Southeast Regional Championships this weekend and took second place in Freestyle. He has just been ranked #3 in the country for his age and weight class under USA Wrestling’s Future Olympian rankings! I’m so proud.

YouCut – where YOU get to cut spending

American people get to vote each week on which of five programs to cut spending on. Congress will then vote on that proposal. Simply brilliant. Everyone should participate.

YOU CUT

Do as I say, not as I do?

Mexican President Calderon tells Wolf Blitzer on CNN that Mexico demands legal documentation and background checks for all immigrants and deports all those who illegally enter Mexico.  I offer no opinion about the AZ law being a good or bad idea, but I know hypocrisy when I hear it.  He has some nerve to stand in front of our Congress and lecture America for doing the same thing Mexico does.  Why don’t you go stop the drug wars in your own country first which have turned Phoenix, AZ into the #2 kidnapping capital of the world behind Mexico City?  What a clown.

My Princess

Gabi’s latest ballet photo. How adorable is that?

A convenient coincidence

President Obama shocked the world a few weeks ago when he opened up areas for offshore drilling. That was quite unexpected even if it was limited and pushed off into the distant future. Next thing you know an oil rig explodes and creates a ecological/environmental disaster. Suddenly drilling is off the table again.

Have you heard any explanation why the oil rig exploded and why the safety valves did not kick in? Did anyone find the government’s reaction to the spill to be suspiciously slow? I thought a few days ago they were going to set all the oil on fire to prevent it from reaching land? Who stopped that idea? Although I find it hard to believe that someone would intentionally harm the environment to prevent future drilling, it does seem awfully convenient that it happened now. I would certainly not rule out some sort of terrorist act. I would certainly like to know how this explosion happened. If it’s BP’s fault, then I would make them pay dearly for the hit the Gulf Coast is going to take environmentally and economically.

GM paid loan back in full???

Have you seen this commercial where GM CEO Ed Whitacre asks forgiveness for taking government money and then goes on to brag that they have paid back the loan in full 5 years ahead of schedule? I was actually impressed when I heard it. Too bad he’s full of crap. The money initially borrowed from TARP was paid back by taking a loan from a different TARP program. In essence they paid back your money with your money. This guy should be fired.

I went to GM.com today and while poking around an Online Chat invitation popped up so I said “what the heck?” and proceeded to chat with a Marketing Specialist:

Welcome to GM.com. Please wait while we find an agent to assist you…
You have been connected to Ainslee F.

Ainslee F: Welcome to GM.com! How may I assist you?
Scott: I want to know why you are running a commercial saying you paid off the government loan 5 years early when you borrowed more TARP money to pay it back?
Ainslee F: I apologize Scott, but I have no information on what you are referring to in reference to TARP.
Ainslee F: Do you have any marketing support questions I can assist you with?
Scott: I suggest you do a little research about the company you work for. Ed Whitacre is lying and making employees like you look bad. I was thinking of buying a 2010 Camaro, but after what I learned today about this deception, I cannot in good conscience buy from a company with such low ethics.
Ainslee F: I am not implying I do not know what you are talking about, however, the chat option, while not limited to, is typically available for vehicle locates, current incentives or any other pre-purchase questions for new vehicles. I am here to assist customers with their questions about our products and services. As far as money management for this company I do not have resources at my disposal to comment on your statement above.
Scott: ok fair enough. Thank you for listening.
Ainslee F: You’re welcome. May I assist you with anything else today?
Scott: No thank you
Ainslee F: Thanks Scott for visiting us at GM.com! Have a wonderful day!
Thank you for contacting GM. You may now close this window.

Bend over and take your VAT

In yet another attempt to move us toward European Socialism, Obama finally seemed to acknowledge the potential for a VAT tax:

“When asked if he could see a potential VAT in this nation, the president said: “I know that there’s been a lot of talk around town lately about the value-added tax. That is something that has worked for some countries. It’s something that would be novel for the United States.”

“And before, you know, I start saying ‘this makes sense or that makes sense,’ I want to get a better picture of what our options are,” Obama said.

Now get this….

He said his first priority “is to figure out how can we reduce wasteful spending so that, you know, we have a baseline of the core services that we need and the government should provide. And then we decide how do we pay for that.”"

*cough* *cough* *bull…*

Excuse me, something was caught in my throat. Reduce wasteful spending. HAHAHAH! Does he really think people still fall for that? And then of course we must first establish the core services and THEN find a way to pay for it. Forgive me for saying so, but that’s back-asswards.

Arrggggghhh somebody get these clowns out of office before it’s too late!
